Ireland is set to see the mercury soar across the week, with high temperatures prompting a series of 'monsoon-like' downpours.
Forecasters predict that temperatures will steadily increase in the South East throughout the week from a balmy 19 degrees on Tuesday to a positively roasting 28 degrees on Friday.
The situation responsible for the hot spell is complex, with an Atlantic weather system forcing high pressure to build on the continent, in-turn pulling warm air up from the Sahara across central Europe and towards Ireland.
Wow! Some scary heat showing for next week in parts of Europe with Spain, France and Germany all showing parts hitting over 43c! That kind of heat is going to cause serious issues for people not prepared for it. If traveling to those areas next week be prepared! pic.twitter.com/aS7Jz9FJlP

The humid weather will create sudden monsoon-like thunderstorms, with their frequency only increasing as the week goes on.
Met Éireann says that a while the week will be warm and humid, the presence of thunderstorms mean that it won't be wall-to-wall sunshine.
Getting warmer with each day now & lots of sunny spells this week too, some thundery showers today but most places staying dry. Up to 22c today but getting closer to 27c by Thursday and lots of sunshine! Friday will be around 26c before it starts cool down then. Enjoy the week. pic.twitter.com/La17Xsz8Ju

The warm weather won't stick around, however, with a gradual decrease in temperatures coming our way as the weekend progresses.
