Half of all workplace & farm deaths in 2017 have happened in the South East

Over half of all workplace deaths, this year has taken place in the South East.

Since 2007, there have been over 215 deaths on farms or in places of work across the country.

This year alone, the figure has reached 16 with 8 of those in the region.

Yesterday, 33 year-old Martin Kehoe Jnr died following a tragic accident at Foulksmills in Wexford.

Pat O' Toole, Journalist with the Farmers' Journal says it's tough for the families in the long-term.

"Everyone of them is a huge tragedy because families live and work on the farm. When there's a serious accident of fatality, families continue to work them for generations to come and that memory is always there and it makes it very difficult.

Anna Marie McHugh from National Ploughing says they're all very upset.
