Cabinet has signed off on an opt-in monthly payment for households which are accommodating Ukrainian refugees.
It will be worth €400 and will be in place for six months, with the possibility of an extension.
Legislation needs to be passed through the Oireachtas, with hopes it will be in place for payments to be received at the end of May.
Integration Minister Roderic O'Gorman says payments will be backdated for those who have taken in refugees earlier in the process.
"It will be an opt-in scheme.
"There may be many people who wish not to opt-in but it is provided on an opt-in basis.
"It will be dependent on an initial commitment of 6 months accommodation but obviously that can be increased."
