Government faces tight Dáil vote over new National Maternity Hospital

The government faces a razor tight vote in the Dáil this evening over the new National Maternity Hospital.

Two Green Party TDs have confirmed they plan to vote against the Government on the issue.

The Government sought to avoid a contentious vote by not opposing a Sinn Féin motion calling on the new National Maternity Hospital to be built on public land.

But the Rural Independents and People Before Profit in a rare collaboration plan to force a vote.

Two Green Party TDs, Neasa Hourigan and Patrick Costello, have confirmed they will vote with the opposition.

Both will face disciplinary action, including potentially losing the Dáil whip.

If they do, the Government will be reduced to a bare majority.

It currently has 82 seats, with 80 being a majority in the Dáil.

It would ramp up pressure on every Dáil vote for however long the whip is removed from the two TDs.
