German discounter is seeking to set up shop in Waterford town

German supermarket retailer Aldi could be about to hit the seaside town of Tramore.

The retail giant is set to renew its bid to locate in the town centre with planning permission sought close to Strand Road and the now disused Tramore train station.

If Aldi's planning permission bid is deemed successful, the single-story store will cover an area of 1,729 square metres and feature an off-licence and 112 car parking spaces.

The site of the proposed building was previously billed as the development site for an ambitious complex anchored by Dunnes Stores.
