Gardai have taken to their official Twitter account to issue a warning to motorists.
The recent freeze has prompted motorists to leave their car running before the morning commute, a habit car thieves have clued into.
The easy targets have resulted in a number of reported car thefts in recent weeks, particularly in Dublin, Kildare and Meath.
Gardaí are advising carowners not to leave their engines running as they de-ice their vehicles & leave the vehicle unattended. A number of cars have been stolen in this way including Dublin /Kildare & Meath areas. Insurance cover could be

Given that cars stolen in this manner are unlocked, Gardai warn that the unfortunate owners may not be covered by insurance.
So lads, the next time a frosty morning comes around, use a trusty ice scraper!
