Dustpans, irons and cartons of milk are among the worst gifts Irish mums have received for Mother's Day.
It seems you can't go wrong with a bunch of flowers or a voucher for a spa treatment, with 49 per cent of mums saying these would be their gifts of choice.
The Aldi survey also found 70 per cent of mums want to spend the whole day with their children and partner, while 57 per cent would like breakfast in bed.
Meanwhile, women are more likely to name their mum, over a celebrity, as their top female role model.
Girl-guiding says its research shows only ten percent named a star as their favourite inspiration - with Madonna, Emma Watson and Victoria Beckham among those mentioned.
While more than half said their mother was the person they most looked up to.
