An new e-bike scheme ran by global company Bolt has just launched in Kilkenny - the first of it's kind in the South East.
80 e-bikes are set to hit the streets of Kilkenny in the coming weeks.
Following the successful launch of its taxi platform in Dublin and Cork, Bolt is now rolling out its e-bike rentals in a number of towns and cities in Ireland. Kilkenny is only the second place in the country that bolt has launched their regional electric bike scheme in. The first place was Sligo back in June.
Bolt is an Estonian mobility company that offers vehicle for hire, micromobility, car-sharing, and food delivery operating in over 400 cities in over 45 countries.
The e-bike is issued with a dashboard providing information about speed, battery level and speed zones, showing the user all the information required while riding.
To use the bike, you need to download the Bolt app, and then scan a QR code to unlock it.
It costs 15 cents a minute to use the bike, with no unlock fee.
To prevent people from operating the e-bikes while intoxicated users will need to pass an "in-app cognitive reaction test".
