Extension at Co. Waterford national school gets green light from Government

The Government has given the green light for building work to begin soon on the construction of an extension at the Glór na Mara National school in Tramore.

The news has been confirmed this week by the Minister for Education, Richard Bruton, in a meeting with Senator Paudie Coffey at Leinster House.

Minister Bruton confirmed that formal approval has been issued to the school authorities to start shortlisting building contractors to carry out the work on the school’s badly-needed extension.

Senator Coffey - who has made repeated representations on behalf of the school in recent years - described the development as “a significant step forward”.

Senator Coffey said: “These are exciting times for the school and Tramore. With an enrolment of over 420 pupils, Glór na Mara National School Tramore is one of the largest primary schools in the county and has long needed a substantial building extension to cater for the educational needs of the ever-growing school student population.

I was delighted to assist the Principal and the school authorities, by directly engaging with the Minister for Education on their behalf to ensure that the building project received formal approval to short-list building contractors - this approval was received by the school this week.”
Senator Coffey commended Glór na Mara School Principal Pat O Mahoney and the extension design Team on their “immense hard work to date”, adding: “I look forward to them getting contractors on site soon to commence the next exciting phase  of development for the school.”
