An Garda Siochana have begun rolling out drug roadside testing across the South East and Ireland - but how does it affect you?
The new enforcement system is the first of its kind in Ireland, one that will see the testing of legal and illegal drugs by a sample of saliva.
The method supports the visual detection system already in place that includes checking pupil dilation and physical coordination.
The advice from the RSA is simple.
First off, drivers with medical conditions should continue to take their prescribed medications in accordance with healthcare advice.
Following that, seek advice from your doctor or pharmacist as to whether the medication you take affects your ability to drive.
Be aware of the side effects and act responsibly.. There’s no hiding drug driving.
