A man has received a €6,000 payout after being fired for accidentally spilling boiling water on a young boy in a store.
The Workplace Relations Commission heard the store worker was walking down the shop aisle eating a pot noodle for lunch as the boy turned the corner and ran into him.
According to an article in the Irish Daily Mail, the boy was in such severe pain he had to visit the hospital that evening after screaming from his injuries.
The mother filed a complaint the next day and intended to hire a lawyer to file a personal injury claim.
Following the incident the worker in question was dismissed and WRC adjudication officer Niamh O'Carroll Kelly found that he had been unfairly dismissed by his employer.
He was subsequently awarded €6,000 in compensation.
