There were celebrations in County Waterford at the weekend when a punter turned one coin into a very satisfying windfall thanks to an ambitious Lotto wager.
The anonymous customer entered a BoyleSports shop in the county to place two €1 bets on four numbers to come out in the main Irish Lotto draw on Saturday evening.
The first wager was banking on numbers 7, 9, 12 and 15 and all four rolled out to beat odds of 3,800/1 and bag a return of €3,801.
But the lucky winner doubled their haul with another €1 flutter on numbers 3, 7, 9 and 12, meaning they were able to return to the shop and collect a grand total of €7,602 from their modest investment.
Lawrence Lyons, spokesperson for BoyleSports said: “It was only a €2 punt, but it paid off spectacularly so fair play to our County Waterford customer for their ambitious thinking. They proved the big wins don’t necessarily require big stakes and we hope they enjoy their winnings.”
