Maltese media is reporting that two hijackers are threatening to blow up a plane with 118 people on board.
One hijacker is claiming to be in possession of a hand grenade.
The hijackers are claiming to be pro-Gaddafi. It is not known what their demands are at this point.
The Maltese prime minister, Joseph Muscat, has tweeted that there is a "potential hijack situation".
The situation is the second incident for the airline this week, when on December 19th the airline was forced to withdraw one of its fleet after it was shot while on the ground at Tripoli Airport.
