The Communications Minister has said he will aim to move on the abolition of the Broadcasting Levy for independent radio stations.
Denis Naughten met with the Independent Broadcasters of Ireland where they expressed their concerns on the financial implications the levy has on the independent sector.
It follows promises from the Taoiseach Enda Kenny to abolish the charge during the General Election campaign.
Communications Minister Denis Naughten speaking at the IBI AGM in Athlone this afternoon
Minister Naughten told Beat News he understands the frustrations of the IBI and hopes to move it along to the next stage:
"What I would hope is that we can move some of these things along quickly because I don't think the sector can afford to wait much long in relation to it beit the RTE's and the independent broadcasters.
"We need to look at how we can leverage content to actually serve the industry and support the industry."
