Culture Night to go ahead in Cork despite Covid-19

Culture Night in Cork City will go ahead this year despite the limitations of Covid-19.

The annual celebration will be held in the city on September 18th, with over 60 events planned.

Much of the line-up will take place online, with live streams, prerecorded pieces and file footage all planed for the night.

There will also be a small number of outdoor events, including 'Retracing the footsteps of Cork's wine geese' and guided tours of Elizabeth Fort.

Some indoor events will take place, with organisers urging the public to adhere to current public health guidelines if they chose to attend one of the night's events in-person.

An exhibition by Stephen Doyle will be open at the Triskel Arts Centre, while a tour and demonstration of practical woodwork will take place in Benchspace Cork.

Organisers say they have been working hard to ensure the night goes ahead despite Government restrictions on crowd sizes, saying on their website: "Given the events of recent months, there are obviously some challenges this year for Culture Night. Organisers and venues have been working hard to create a memorable and safe night for all.

"The fact that Cork City Culture Night has 60 events to offer in this strange year is a huge testament to the persistence and creativity of the Arts Sector in Cork."
