An inquest has found that a Wicklow farmer was seriously injured after being crushed by a cow, which subsequently lead to his death.
That's according to an article from Irish Times which says the cow became startled in a holding pen on the farm when it saw a dog in the farmyard.
The cow reacted quickly, crashed through the pen and crushed 52-year-old, Peter Byrne.
The details of the tragic event were highlighted during a sitting of Dublin District Coroner’s Court.
Mr Byrne, a father of four of Ballymaconey, Rathdangan, Co Wicklow, suffered fatal injuries and died 5 days later while being treated in Dublin's Mater Hospital.
The man received traumatic injuries after the animal and metal fencing fell on him in the incident on his farm and the animal appeared to be lying on the farmer for several minutes as emergency services were called.
A post-mortem showed he died as a result of spinal shock due to several neck vertebrae fractures from the crush injuries caused by the cow.
In response to questions during a sitting of Dublin District Coroner’s Court, it was heard there were 'no worries' about the equipment being used to hold the cattle at the time of the incident and that the deceased was known to be an 'experienced farmer'.
