Conor McGregor to make acting debut in X-Men spinoff

20th Century Fox has revealed that UFC Featherweight Champion Conor McGregor will have a small role in upcoming X-Men spinoff New Mutants. The film is currently in development at the studio with Fault In Our Stars director Josh Boone set to take the helm.

McGregor will play an Irish mutant, Black Tom Cassidy, who is a relative of both Banshee and Siryn who appeared previously in the franchise. Banshee was played by Caleb Landry Jones in X-Men: First Class and Siryn was played by Shauna Kain in X-Men: The Last Stand.

The events of New Mutants will take place after this Summer's X-Men: Apocalypse with James McEvoy set to reprise his role as Professor X and Alexandra Shipp returning as Storm. Recent rumours suggest that Game Of Thrones star Maisie Williams will play Wolfsbane with casting currently underway for the roles of Magik, Cannonball and Dani Moonstar.

Black Tom Cassidy appeared in the 1990s X-Men cartoon where he was portrayed as the younger brother of Banshee. He has the ability to create blasts from a stick he carries.
