Concerns are growing over the potential size of Solar Farms in Co Waterford

Concerns are growing over the potential size of Solar Farms in County Waterford.

New plans could see almost a thousand acres of farmland being used for solar panels in the county - with around 500 acres concentrated in a rural beauty spot near the Comeragh Mountains.

Local farmer Martin Coughlan says they're not against solar power - but they're very worried about the size of what's proposed.

"There's seventeen hundred and fifty acres of land under the Phoenix Park. If you were to propose in Dublin that there be a five hundred acre solar farm development in the Phoenix Park, I don't think the people in Dublin would be too happy"

He added: "I also suspect for example that if you were to go down to Kerry and say we're going to put in a solar farm of this magnitude down in that part of the world, the Healy-Rae's would turn around and quite rightly say no we're not going to have this."
