Revenue officers seized over 13 kgs of cocaine with an estimated value of over €918,000 at Rosslare Europort.

The illicit drugs were discovered when a Bulgarian-registered cab unit was stopped and searched, having earlier arrived on a ferry from Dunkirk, France.

A man in his 40s was arrested by An Garda Síochána and taken to a Garda Station in County Wexford.

Investigations are ongoing.

This seizure is part of Revenue's ongoing operations targeting the importation of illegal drugs.

Second seizure in weeks

The discovery comes just weeks after one of the largest drug hauls in the history of the state.

On September 26th, a total of 2,253kg of suspected cocaine with a street value of €157 million was been seized from a cargo vessel off the south-east coast.

It came as an elite unit of the Defence Forces stormed the Panamanian cargo ship in a major operation.

Speaking at a media briefing in Dublin following the discovery, a senior Garda member said the discovery is the largest drug seizure in the history of the State.

Assistant Garda Commissioner Justin Kelly described the action as “hugely significant”.
