The Children's charity Barnardos is asking for donations for its giving day.
People are being asked to show their generosity as the nationwide event takes place today.
The charity is reporting increases in requests from hard pressed families who are struggling with the economic crisis.
Director of fundraising at Barnardos Mary Gamble is appealing for the public's support " This year we are facing into the most intense financial pressure that our parents have faced for decades. The work that we do on the frontline provides both practical and emotional support to families that are in crisis. We provide practical things like food parcels and breakfast for children before school."
