Four 4th class students from CBC prep school in Cork City have been praised for their act of charity after they chose to go without birthday presents in place of raising money to help Cork's homeless community.
Donal, Max, Theo and Jack raised €880 from their joint birthday party, and after being alerted of their donation, a local radio station topped up the amount to €1,000.
Theo's mother Denise, speaking to Neil Prendeville on Red FM this morning, said that "instead of gifts, the boys decided that they wanted to donate to Cork Penny Dinners.
"They had read up about it, and it had gone up from 500 dinners a day to 2,000 dinners a day and they decided it was a great, great cause, so they decided to give up their money."
The four boys plan to present the money tomorrow, see how Cork Penny Dinners operate, and they also hope to help out while there.
