A South East TD is calling for use of antigen testing in other settings.
From tomorrow, the rapid testing will be introduced in schools across the country.
Speaking in the Dáil, Carlow's Jennifer Murnane O'Connor says the should be rolled out for people attending gyms and cinemas;
"Are we not looking at antigen testing being an option, as it is in many other countries. We use them now in colleges and will be using them in schools, so why not access them to other services like cinemas or gyms to ensure safety. It could really be a help."
She also said that widespread use of these tests would put unvaccinated people's minds at ease;
"Vaccinated people can spread the virus just as easily as unvaccinated people and that's important to remember.
I know people who are too scared to get the vaccine. And it's not that they're being selfish, it's because they genuinely have a fear."
