The Education Minister will attend a Brexit forum in Carlow tonight.
The event entitled "Brexit, what's next for Ireland" will examine the potential impact of Brexit on the country.
Members of the public are invited to attend the forum at the Seven Oaks Hotel, Carlow at 8pm.
The Minister for Education, Richard Bruton, will be in attendance to discuss the impact of Brexit on Ireland and the Irish Government’s response. Also in attendance will be Joe Healy, IFA President; and Danny McCoy, CEO of IBEC.
Deputy Deering said: “This Carlow forum on Brexit aims to assess the potential impact of Brexit on Ireland and how we can best respond.
"I am delighted that Minister Bruton will be on hand to discuss the Government’s response to Brexit, how we can mitigate the negative consequences and indeed potentially benefit, in terms of job creation.
As the Taoiseach himself recently highlighted, the level of trade between Ireland and the UK is hugely significant with over €1.2 billion of goods and services exchanged across the Irish Sea on a weekly basis, supporting 400,000 jobs between our two countries.
As we know, Brexit will have very real consequences for famers and business people here. So Joe Healy, the IFA President will also attend the forum to give the perspective of Irish farmers and Danny McCoy will speak about the impact on Irish business.
I look forward to welcoming local people to the Carlow forum on Brexit and I am sure we will have an informative and engaging discussion."
