A medicinal cannabis cultivation centre could be established in Co. Carlow in the near future.
The South East county is one of four areas earmarked in the country by the Irish cannabinoid medicinal company, Greenlight Pharmaceuticals.
The company, which was founded in 2014, is researching the use of cannabis to fight a number of diseases.
Suitable farming conditions and the graduates from nearby Carlow IT are reported to be key factors in the area's identification.
If the facility goes ahead, an investment of up to €20 million could be expected.
