Cabinet Ministers to finalise new drafts laws for remote working

Cabinet ministers will finalise new draft laws which give employees the legal right to request to work from home today.

It'll set out the rights of staff to ask their bosses to be allowed to work remotely.

However there is some concern around the grounds on which employers can turn down a request.

Dr Laura Bambrick from the Irish Congress of Trade Unions, says the new laws will make the process transparent.

Meanwhile, the Tánaiste has said the new draft legislation will not guarantee workers a right to remote working but will provide a legal right to request it.

Leo Varadkar also said that the new draft laws will contain a mechanism that will enable an employee to appeal a refusal of remote working by an employer to the Workplace Relations Commission.
