The Mall in Waterford City has been closed in both directions and a number of buildings have been evacuated due to what's being described as a 'security incident'.
It's believed Gardai received an anonymous call informing them that an explosive device had been left in the Theatre Royal.
The theatre and a number of buildings nearby, including City Hall and the House of Waterford Crystal, have been evacuated as Gardai conduct a sweep of the area.
The road is expected to be sealed off for a number of hours while Gardai investigate whether there is a viable threat.
