The British Prime Minister, Liz Truss, has resigned.
She made a statement outside 10 Downing Street just after 1:30pm this afternoon.
She said;
"I came into office at a time of great economic and international instability,"
Ms Truss outlined that she was elected "with a mandate to change this", adding "We delivered on energy bills, and on cutting national insurance."
Liz Truss says she now recognises she "cannot deliver the mandate".
There will be a leadership election "to be completed within the next week."
Ms Truss added "this will ensure we remain on a path to deliver our fiscal plans".
She will remain as prime minister until a successor has been chosen.
