A status orange thunderstorm warning has been extended until 10 o'clock tonight.
The alert for heavy downpours of rain and hail, now applies to Munster and counties Wexford, Carlow, Kilkenny, Laois, Offaly, Kildare, Wicklow and Dublin.
Heavy downpours in Wexford this evening have been described as 'biblical' as flash flooding has caused the town of New Ross to stand still.

Local councillor Michael Sheehan has said that emergency services are responding rapidly to the fast flooding.
People are being urged to avoid the area.
Road users are also being advised to avoid the Rose Kennedy Bridge with reports that the amount of surface water is causing dangerous and un-roadworthy conditions for vehicles.
