Aussie pubs to face €150,000 fine for incorrect pint pouring

Pubs in Australia could face fines in excess of €147,000 in a move by government authorities to clamp down on rogue bar owners.

According to news.com.au Australia's National Measurement  Institute is set to conduct a nationwide audit of around 320 pubs, clubs and breweries to ensure the correct amount of drink is being poured for customers.

In the last audit, carried out in 2019, 30% of traders were found to be in breach of regulations, resulting in fines of up to $222,000.

Speaking to ABC Radio in Australia, National Measurement Institute chief executive Bruce Warrington revealed that most consumers were unaware of Australia's special laws surrounding measurement.

“Almost all traders want to do the right thing, they want their customers to have trust in them", he said.

“We look at patterns, we do look at history, we do try and put our inspectors where they can do the most good. It is about giving everyone the confidence that they need.”
