A cannabis-based product will be available to the Irish market next month.
The HSE will tell an Oireachtas committee today Canne-Epil, which is used to treat epilepsy, will come on stream in October.
At present, 67 Irish patients receive medicinal cannabis products - but they're all sourced from the Netherlands.
Campaigner Vera Twomey, whose daughter Ava Barry has epilepsy, says today's news is positive:
"We welcome another CBD product being introduced, however it cannot stand alone with regard to treating epilepsy for patients."
"Without THC products to assist with seizure-control, the improvement of seizure-control will not be long term, and action to allow the inclusion of THC medication is essential in this country."
