Two Independent TDs Michael Healy Rae and Tipp's Mattie McGrath say Micheal Martin did NOT issue them with an ultimatum.
They say they both intend to vote today during the nomination for Taoiseach, but wouldn't say publicly who they'd support.
It had been claimed the Fianna Fail leader told the independents to vote for him today or he wouldn't put his name forward again.
But Deputies Healy Rae and McGrath say that statement did NOT come from Micheal Martin:
Michael Healy Rae said, "I believe that he didn't say that and that has been attributed to him but its wrong and its unfair because he didn't say it. The ultimatum that never came from Michael Martin."
While Mattie McGrath said, "That statement in relation to Michael Martin, that statement wasn't issued by him about the ultimatum. A source it was attributed to, a source, that could be anybody."
Meanwhile Carlow TD Pat Deering is insisting Fine Gael and Fianna Fail MUST come to some sort of agreement to avoid another election in the near future.
"First of all I understand the frustration of the general public. I always said since day one after the general election that the responsibility of all 158 TDs that were elected, it was their responsibility to come to a conclusion and elect a Taoiseach and form a stable Government, that's what the people decided.
They decided on a very unusual result, I would say nobody wants an election be it the public or be it politicians. But I think the responsibility falls on politicians to make sure their is a strong and stable Government."
