50 new social housing units are to be built at Slievekeale, in Waterford City.
Housing Minister Simon Coveney made the announcement following Tuesday's launch of the "Action plan for Housing and Homelessness."
There are sites located in Waterford, Cork, Clare, Galway, Kildare and Roscommon.
Fine Gael Waterford Senator, Paudie Coffey says "this new social housing development is a really positive development for Waterford people and families on the housing waiting list.
The announcement comes as part of the Government’s comprehensive housing action plan, called ‘Rebuilding Ireland - an Action Plan for Housing and Homelessness’.
The plan delivers on a key commitment in the Programme for Government to prioritise solving the problem of the housing shortage that arose after the economic bust."
