Volunteers from the Jacket Off Your Back Campaign in Carlow are on route to the Idomeni Refugee Camp in Greece.

They set off by ferry on Sunday and have been travelling across the continent with emergency packs.

Founder Kevin Kelly is travelling with two volunteers to ship a van load of supplies directly to the camp.

All items in the packs were donated to the Carlow based charity by residents across the south east.

"We've over a thousand pairs of shoes, a thousand pairs of socks, baby carriers, pens and pencils. We've lots of stuff and I think we'll make a small impact."

The Carlow based Jacket Off Your Back charity is a relatively new project founded 9th of November 2014.

Their aim is to keep homeless people warm and clean with their priority being the Homeless in Ireland and people in need first and Syrian refugee camps and to help other charities in eastern Europe.

Kevin added, " The fact of the matter is that there is three to four thousand children sleeping in a field at the camp in Idomeni. We can feel the cold travelling in the van and they're sleeping in a field which is completely unacceptable in this so called European Union, it's unacceptable that this was allowed to happen."
