24 GP practices got over €900,000 each for treating medical-card patients last year.
According to freedom of information figures, the average amount was €248,000.
In total, €854m was paid to over 3,000 GP practices under the medical card scheme last year, including practice support payments.
It's an increase of 8% on the previous year.
11 practices got over €1m.
The largest amount was paid to Laois GP Salgaonkar Vivek Mahadev, who runs a surgery in Mountmellick - he got over €1.3m.
Dr Austin O'Carroll, in Dublin's north inner city, got over €1.2m - marginally more than Dr Caitlin O’Connor in Tralee, Co Kerry.
The HSE says while these gross amounts are attached to the name of a particular GP, they can in fact cover several GPs and staff working in a practice.
