A Kilkenny initiative "Taxi Watch" patrols the bridges and quays 7 days a week in order to help those in need.
Taxi Watch has since been taken up by some taxi drivers in Waterford and Ennis.

Founder Derek Devoy explained the initiative to Beat News:

"We set up in November 2014. It's fifteen taxi drivers here in Kilkenny.
"We all attended a SafeTalk course, did the ASIST course aswell - a course by the HSE - which makes people more aware of how to deal with people who are suicidal or depressed. What to say and what not to say and things like that."
"We patrol Kilkenny streets, bridges, rivers, and keep an eye out for anyone around the town who might look like they need a bit of help."
