People across the region have raised €140,000 for the Solas Cancer Support Centre in Waterford.
The South East Run for life took place on the 9th of October this year with the aim of raising funds for the centre which provides a variety of support services to cancer patients and their families.
This year's event was successful in raising over €140,000.
Brian Creedon, chairperson of Solas Cancer Support Centre, spoke to Beat News to tell us more.
"We were delighted to announce that with much hard work from our supporters and participants on the day that there was over €140,000 raised for the Solas Cancer Support Centre. This is our biggest fundraising event of the year and really helps us going towards providing our services for those affected by cancer.
It means we can provide services free of charge, there's never a charge, you'll never be asked for a donation. That's important that people can access services and it's due to the generosity of people who fundraise for the Run For Life, those who participated and supported.
We've also had a lot of people who've helped make the event successful, we've had many supporters, both Beat and Datapac and many other individuals. They've all helped raise the awareness of the Solas Cancer Support Centre because we've rebranded this summer, we decided to describe exactly what we are on the tin" concluded Brian Creedon.
Beat CEO Gabrielle Cummins said, "we're delighted to continue to support the Solas Cancer Support Centre as it provides a vital service for cancer patients, survivors and their friends and families. The annual Run for Life is one of the centre's main fundraisers and we are committed to supporting the event and the service by helping to raise awareness and encourage people from all over the South East to get involved."
The South East Run for Life is one of a number of fundraising initiatives for the charity.
