There's still a bit to go in reducing fatalities on Irish roads according to Carlow County Council's Road Safety Officer.

20 road fatalities occurred on South East roads last year.

It comes as 133 road deaths were recorded in 2021 nationwide, according to figures from the Road Safety Authority.

Tipperary recorded the highest in the region with 10 road deaths, followed by 7 in Wexford, 2 in Kilkenny and 1 in Waterford.

While Carlow is one of three counties that recorded no road fatalities in 2021.

A number of road deaths occurred over Christmas, where a man died on St. Stephen's Day in a crash in Ferns, Co Wexford, while three more people died the day after in separate crashes.

On December 30th two more people died in crashes in Donegal and Dublin while three also died in road traffic collisions on News Years Day.

Speaking to Beat News, John McDarby says road users should be more aware in 2022:
