The Clonmel Arms Hotel in the town centre looks set for a makeover.
The hotel was closed in 2005 and currently has 36 rooms.
The Sarsfield Street site has been lying idle for years and sold by NAMA in recent times.
At a recent meeting of Clonmel Municipal District Meeting, the planned 120 bedroomed hotel was highlighted as the new owner has been in touch with Council officials seeking a pre-planning meeting.
Cllr. Siobhan Ambrose says, "this is fantastic news for Clonmel and the surrounding areas and I believe that when it is developed that it will rejuvenate the town centre."
