Crowds will gather in Kilkenny later today for the 10th annual Susie Long memorial walk.
Susie died from cancer in 2007 and her family have been campaigning for a palliative care unit for Carlow and Kilkenny since her death.
The walk takes place in Kilkenny castle at 12 noon today and people across the region are being asked to attend and show their support.
Tommy Roche is chairman of the Susie Long hospice fund, he says it's a hugely important issue.
"To date we have raised over €700 thousand for the hospice in Kilkenny.
"The need for this hospice was identified in 2009 by the HSE but was never built due to lack of funding.
"We'd love to spend the money that we have on a new hospice in Kilkenny- we just need the politicians and the HSE to deliver".
