Covid has put a spotlight on the worrying situation of domestic abuse cases of women in Ireland, according to the manager of Oasis House in Waterford
There was a 100 percent increase in helpline calls in 2021 to one Waterford domestic abuse support service.
Oasis House experienced a rise in the number of calls in the month of April, up by 116 percent.
Nationally, domestic abuse cases rose by 10 percent according to Garda figures.
With over 1,000 calls, just before the summer holidays was noted as the biggest rise in cases being reported.
