Fans rally around The Script’s Danny O’Donoghue after his mother dies suddenly

Danny O'Donoghue has paid tribute to his mother who passed away suddenly last week.

Ailish O'Donoghue died at her home on Friday, February 8 and her funeral took place on yesterday, Valentine’s Day.

Ten years to the day after her husband, Shay passed away.

“It deeply saddens us today to have to say RIP to Ailish O’Donoghue, you’re forever in our thoughts and prayers,’ a picture on the singer’s Instagram account reads.

“The greatest love story may look like it’s come to an end, when in fact it’s just beginning…

"Today, she's back with her one true love Shay O'Donoghue, sitting at a piano watching over us all.

Fans have rallied their support in the comments of the post.

“Thinking of you and all your family. Your music helped me when I lost my mum, especially flares. I hope your memories bring you comfort,” one read.

Another quoted the lyrics of their song, If You Could See Me Now, a song which is an emotional tribute to O'Donoghue's late father – and to guitarist Mark Sheehan’s parents.
