Eurovision winner in intensive care

The winner of this year's Eurovision Song Contest, Salvador Sobral, is in intensive care awaiting a heart transplant operation.

After taking a break earlier this month to focus on his health, the 27-year-old was admitted to hospital as he waits for a donor.

Sobral scored a record-breaking 758 in Kiev earlier this year as he became Portugal's first Eurovision winner. His heart condition meant that his sister Luisa, writer of the winning song, took his place at rehearsals for the competition.

“It is no longer a secret to anyone that my health is fragile,” Sobral said earlier in the when announcing his break from music “I have a problem. Unfortunately, the time has come to give my body to science and consequently to remove myself from the life of concerts and music in general.”
