Here at Beat you may have heard us using our "cúpla focail" over the last few days and that's because along with many others across the world we're celebrating Seachtain na Gaeilge.
Seachtain na Gaeilge isn't an actual 'seachtain' or week as such, but it's usually celebrated over the first three weeks in March.
The celebrations see many events take place 'as Gaeilge' all over the country and abroad with the likes of pop-up Gaeltachts, table quizzes, park runs, library readings, coffee mornings, comedy gigs, concerts and so much more!
We've spoken to some of our South East Gaelgóirí and created a five-part spotlight documentary:
In our first episode, Jess spoke to Fiachra Ó Céilleachair and his three children. They share their story about their lifestyle and Fiachra compares his life growing up in Gaeltacht na Rinne to raising his children through Gaeilge in Waterford City.
In our second episode, Jess spoke to Máire Seó Breathnach from Oifig na Gaeilge in Waterford City and County Council. Máire talked about a wide range of issues and struggles that they are trying to overcome to provide the best service possible to those who speak Irish daily as part of their lifestyle.
Our very own South East Gaelgóir Jess Ní Mháirtín goes back home to her Mammy in Wexford in our third episode. Her siblings also feature on the episode as all four have had completely different experiences in terms of education.
In our fourth episode, Jess chatted to Tipperary-native Lisa Ní Choisdealbha who gives us an insight into her role in the commercial independent radio sector as executive director. Lisa tells us all about putting Gaeilge on the airwaves and has some advice for those looking to learn.
And in our final episode, how Irish is taught at the most basic level is the topic of conversation with CBS Primary School principal Vicky Barron from Wexford. This includes a brief mention of learning Gaeilge with learning difficulties, along with the attitudes towards Gaeilge in Irish households.
