Shortage of Communion Shoes being reported in Ireland

There are reports of a shortage of girls' communion shoes available here.

Outbreaks of Covid-19 among port and factory workers are to blame for the slower production and transit of shoes.

John Walsh of Walsh Bros Shoes in Kerry, says shortages are being experienced across the country.

Speaking to to his local radio in Kerry, he explains the journey his order of white shoes will take before they arrive in his shop:

"In a nutshell, if a sandal has left China on the 11th of the 2nd, it has stopped at several ports, like China and India, and it's due to be off loaded at Rotterdam in the next couple of days."

"It then it has to wait to be taken to Dublin, and then when it gets to Dublin it has to go through customs clearance, then it has to go to the factory in Ballinasloe and then it has to be delivered to shops."

Other companies like Cadbury are experiencing sever shortages too.

Yesterday it was reported that global supplies issues, the pandemic and the war in Ukraine have contributed to price hikes in Cocoa and sugar.

This has led to Easter eggs reducing in size by almost 10 per cent in the last three years.

The research found that consumers get around 25 grams less chocolate per box.
