An Irishman living in London has confessed to leaving his immersion on for seven years.
Former BBC News Correspondent Keith Doyle said he didn't think his house had an immersion before a neighbour alerted him after seeing his electricity meter.
Keith has also had to explain the fear of leaving the immersion on - to his South African husband!
"When I told him it had been on for seven years he said: 'Just switch it off!' He just doesn't understand!"
I'm in complete meltdown...just realised our immersion has been ON FOR SEVEN YEARS !!! Lovely neighbour pointed it out. For an Irish person this is literally the worst thing that could ever happen !!!

Keith followed up the announcement to inform followers that his bills weren't too scary in the end, so maybe we shouldn't be so terrified of leaving the immersion on after all, hey?
Thanks for v funny replies proves we Irish have mortal fear of immersions & can laugh about it. Im not total eejit, no light or label thought it was boiler power! It had thermostat so Greta can chill & bills were not scary. Press been on yr hilarious replies may make the papers?
