The European Commission has announced an agreement on a common charger for all phones, tablets and headphones.
All small and medium devices will use USB type C chargers from 2024. It's part of a broader effort to make products in the EU more sustainable, to reduce electronic waste, and make consumers' lives easier. Under the new rules, consumers will no longer need a different charger and cable every time they buy a new device, and can use one single charger for all small and medium-sized electronicsTherefore, Apple will be forced to change the connector on iPhones
Tech correspondent Jess Kelly says it's not yet known when Apple will get on board "It'll be interesting to see when Apple launches the new iPhone this autumn, whether or not they'll jump the gun and have the USB-C port or if they will use that (lightning usb cable) full-time up until autumn 2024 to make the change"
