People use and perceive emojis in completely different ways meaning they often have no idea what’s happening in a text conversation.
New research suggests a quarter of the time, people looking at the same emoji can't agree on whether it is positive, negative or neutral.
Results are even more confused when viewed across different phone types and software as the images are rendered slightly differently on each.
Researchers at the University of Minnesota surveyed 304 people and found that some had totally opposite understandings of certain emoji.
