Argos has announced the closure of its Kilkenny city store as part of a restructuring programme.
The iconic retail chain is set to close its long-standing store on High Street in spring 2023.
It is not known if any jobs will be affected by the closure or if staff will be redeployed to nearby stores in Waterford, Carlow or Wexford.
While the retailer has no plans to close its remaining stores in the South East, its St. Stephen's Green Dublin outlet will close in the summer of 2023.
The chain has piloted difficult trading conditions in recent months with UK sales falling 11.9% in the first quarter of 2022 when compared with 2021. The company has also faced supply chain issues which have reduced levels of its famously eclectic stock.
Speaking in April of this year, Sainbury's and Argos Chief Executive Simon Roberts said that Argos' "transformation programme is on track and Argos is a more profitable business. 80% of Argos sales now originate online.”
