US talk show icon Jerry Springer has died aged 79.
The former mayor of Cincinnati sprung to fame in the early nineties due to the success of The Jerry Springer Show.
As reported by the Independent, his family said he died "peacefully" at home in Chicago.
A statement read: "Jerry’s ability to connect with people was at the heart of his success in everything he tried whether that was politics, broadcasting, or just joking with people on the street who wanted a photo or a word.
"He’s irreplaceable, and his loss hurts immensely, but memories of his intellect, heart and humour will live on."

Springer's incredibly popular talk show ran for an astonishing 27 years. He described it as "escapist entertainment".
The show was a US hit and was known for controversial figures, swearing and potential brawls being broken up by security guards.
Having surpassed more than 4,000 episodes, 2018 saw the end of the long-running series.
Tributes have been pouring in for the beloved figure. Piers Morgan took to social media to share a heartfelt message.
