As the Villagers explained so eloquently on Twitter - 'The Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Long-Haired Men has lost it's leader'.
The announcement of David Bowie's death has shocked the world this afternoon.
The 69 year old's official Twitter account broke the news this morning, following an 18 month battle with cancer:

After 51 years of music which saw 26 albums, 111 singles and 51 music videos, the impact of Bowie's career on so many musicians in Ireland and beyond is evident, with many taking to social media to pay their respects:
Unthinkable. The world has lost one of the most important artists and icons of our time. I was moved immeasurably by David Bowie. RIP.

With the many artists, young and old, coming out to pay homage to Bowie's career, it's fair to say there's a lot of belief that a Starman is indeed waiting in the sky.
